Bhoomi Geetha
This Kannada movie was Atul's first experience of the silver screen. It was directed by Kesari. The film won a National Award in a special category. Set in Karnataka, Southern India, the film revolves a tribal group living in isolation and the effect on their lives when the government decides to build a dam in the tribal belt. A officer is posted to the region with the intention of eliminating the inhabitants from the land. His wife is drawn to the tribals and sympathises with them, to the extent of standing up to him and discussing government policy.
Hey Ram
'Hey Ram' was Atul's first released Hindi/Tamil film. It proved to be a major break through in his career. Kamal Hassan, a veteran actor from India, directed the film. The film was appreciated by the Indian audiences across the globe. The film was selected to represent India for the Oscars.

Atul played Shriram Abhyankar, a Hindu fanatic, which was a pivotal character of the film. It fetched the first National Award for him as a Best Actor in Supporting Role for the year 1999-2000. He was also nominated for other important popular awards.
Jayam Manade Raa
(Dir: Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar) is receiving appreciation at various film festivals.
The film grabbed National Award for The Best Marathi Film for the year 2002-2003. It is the story of a doctor, Dr. Bhaskar Narayan Deshpande born in a traditional Brahmin family, receives Magsassey Award for his achievements in the field of preventive medicine in the slums of Mumbai.

But Yaksha is more interested in reading about underworld dons. He takes a liking to Poonja, (Atul Kulkarni) an underworld don. He makes much effort to become his assistant because he wants to be ‘powerful’ like him. He joins his gang and becomes the don’s favourite as well. He begins to do the dirty job for the don and kills many opponents.

Edegarike is a 2012 Indian Kannada crime - drama film directed by Sumana Kittur. The script is based on Agni Shridhar's novel with the same title name,which is based on his own experience. Agni Shridhar has written the script and dialogues for the film. The two vital roles of this film - killer and to be killed - played by Atul Kulkarni and Aditya Singh is based on the script of well known writer and editor of 'Agni' tabloid Agni Sridhar. Atul Kulakarni as Sridhar is simply superb.

The film is about 10 college friends and how a bike accident involving one of his friends changes the life of the protagonist.Directed by R Jeyakumar, the premise seems to be inspired by Russian mafia games. Atul Kulkarni steals the show with his restrained acting.
